Kastle MX98 (2011)

Designed with freeskier Griffin Post—who is fresh off a win at the Chilean Freeskiing Championships—the MX98 is, depending on your fancy, a wide all-mountain ski or a narrow big-mountain ski. Semantics aside, it’s a smooth, capable ski that’s equally comfortable carving groomers, stomping airs, and smearing junk. It takes direction well, thanks to shallow camber and a bit of tip rocker. Its sidecut begins farther back than that of piste-focused skis, so you won’t be thrown by hooky tips in demanding terrain.
