What makes you qualified to test?: I grew up in the ski industry, working every kind of job from tuning, to coaching ski racing, to selling in ski shops, to selling to ski shops, to making skis in Italy. I love to ski and I love it when people are on the right gear.
Skiing background: NCAA Div 1 Ski racer for Utah, Nationally ranked ski racer from 86-97. Worked for ski and ski boot companies for 15 years of my life.
Favorite type of terrain: soft buttery crud on steep terrain, perfect cord groomers and of course pow!
Ideal ski: An all-mountain ski, 98ish underfoot with a firm shovel and a stiff tail.
Favorite part of the Skiing mag ski test: The Aussie burgers, skiing at the 'Bird and ripping with so many awesome girls from so many different backgrounds.
Funniest story from ski test (any year)?: The dude stew in the hot tub and there was one random guy with a full hair shirt in the hot tub with at least 20 other dudes. With two or three women. Why was that guy in there? Also the fact that Osamu skied every day with a backpack on, what was in that backpack???
What don't people know about the ski test?: You actually ski hard all day long. And it's fairly difficult to not get somewhat drunk at altitude, surrounded by old friends drinking 3.2% beer from UT. In other words...it happens easily which is amazing considering. Also, every year, I manage to loose my big toe toenails afterwards. Gross!
Why should people trust the Skiing mag ski test?: Not everyone testing is the same. We all have different skiing styles, body types, abilities, and likes. We all bring to the test different points of view. It's a safe bet that we all don't like the same skis so it's a fair test.
Please translate the following phrase: Hafmeyjunum ekki skíði, þú kjánalegt manneskja!: Mermaids don't ski you silly monkey.- my husband sort of speaks Icelandic. :)
