Elk Meadows Ski Resort

On November 20, Utah’s Elk Meadows ski resort will be auctioned online for a new owner. Starting at a minimum offer of one million dollars, bidders contend to operate the six lift, 1,138-acre ski area, which closed after the 2001-2002 season when owner Wayne Case filed for bankruptcy.

Just west of Beaver, Utah, in the Tushar Mountains, Elk Meadows ski resort boasts an escape from the traffic and congestion of northern Utah’s ski resorts. Only 20,000 skier visits annually provides great skiing, but poor business. Intended to mimic Montana’s Yellowstone Club, including plans for million dollar homes, a golf course, and a private ski area, grand plans for the millionaire’s club failed when the owner filed for bankruptcy. The resort will only re-open if purchased in the November 20 Internet auction. With minimal infrastructure the initial bid investment will not be the last. So, if you are in the market for a ski resort purchase, check out the bid site. The suggested bid is only $5,150,000 and the minimum is $1,000,000. A hefty price for a non-operational ski resort that only averages 400 inches a year. Bids must be submitted the evening of November 20 by 6:00.
