White Pass

If there were a prize for the ski area whose feel has changed the least since, oh, 1981 or so, it’d go to White Pass. The easygoing ski hill 110 miles southeast of Tacoma doubled its size last year to nearly 1,500 acres with the addition of 767-acre Paradise Basin, which also includes two new lifts and a lodge. Though the new zone is mostly cruisey alpine meadows and trees, there are tons of natural booters and small cliffs to drop. Season passes start at $400.
