A Short History of Glisse

1969:

SoCal surfer Mike Doyle invents the Bahne Doyle Single Ski, soon to be known as the monoski.

1986:

A record 120,000 monoskis are sold-mostly in France.

1995:

Rossignol stops producing monoskis. Four years later it sells the last of its inventory.

2001:

L'Association Francaise de Monoski is formed to promote the dying sport and throw "Monopride" parties.

2003:

Sleeper cells of L'Association monoskieurs (left, at Verbier) attempt to violently (well, garishly) regain a foothold in Europe.

2005:

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld declares monoskiers "glisse terrorists." Hellfire missiles rain down on Chamonix.
