CHAMONIX, France Jan. 5, 2005 (USSA) - Bryon Friedman (Park City, UT), who has posted his best World Cup results this season, crashed during official downhill training Wednesday and broke his right leg and left hand, the U.S. Ski Team said.

In his second full year of World Cup racing, Friedman, 24, was attended to by U.S. Ski Team Dr. Eric Verploeg of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.

Friedman suffered a tib-fib fracture (lower leg) that was repaired during surgery and stabilized with a rod. Two bones also were fractured in his left hand that has been splinted.

"Bryon is doing well from surgery and we expect him to have a full recovery, Roalstad said. Friedman will remain in the hospital for a couple of days before returning home to the United States. He will miss the remainder of the season.
