Ski photographers face one obstacle most others don't: brutal cold. "When it's 20 below, I've had film snap in the camera-the motor drive pulls it so tight, and it's so brittle." Cracked film is rare, but condensation inside a lens is common. "The worst thing is to go from extreme to extreme. If you're in a warm house and you step outside to a cold day and take a picture right away, you could have condensation," Markewitz says. "When you're going to the mountain, keep your camera in your backpack and it will gradually adjust. You'll be fine."
